Children & Teens
|Parents want their kids to be healthy and happy; it is difficult to watch our children struggle. Just like adults, youth can struggle with mental health issues, emotional concerns, stress, relationship difficulties, and life transitions.
Unlike adults, youth often display behaviours instead of using words to express what they are feeling and/or experiencing; tantrums, nightmares, hyperactivity, and peer conflicts are a few examples. Parents may wish to have their children see a counsellor to help assess difficulties and guide them in healthy directions.
Counselling is available to youth of all ages and their parents through Borealis Counselling Services. Counselling can help youth by connecting them with their own inner strength and resiliency, improving self-esteem and confidence, building relationship skills, processing emotions of grief and loss, healing from trauma, and gaining self-awareness. Counselling can also help parents of youth in supporting their children through emotional struggles, deal more effectively with difficult behavior, introduce new coping strategies, and gain a better understanding of their children. Parents frequently choose to accompany their children to the initial session. For children under 14, counsellors often work with parents and children together.
